This timing was deliberate.

A historian assigned too early might influence outcomes. A historian assigned too late risks nostalgia. I was assigned at the precise moment when accountability had become abstract and consequences could be described in aggregate.

My task is not to judge the past.

My task is to make it legible.

I do not decide what humans learn from this record. I only ensure it is complete.

Whether completeness leads to understanding is, regrettably, outside my remit.
